CBI arrests KAPL Managing Director in Rs.15 lakh bribery trap;cash,Gold seized

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Anurag Danayak,Managing Director of Karnataka Antibiotics and Pharmaceuticals Limited (KAPL),in a bribery case after laying a successful trap in Noida.

According to the CBI,the accused allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs.15 lakh from a Bhopal-based authorised service agent of KAPL for approving the firm’s Service Agent Agreement,clearing the renewal of pending applications for the current financial year,assigning additional government institutions in Madhya Pradesh, and seeking a share of the firm’s commission from medicine sales.

CBI officials caught Danayak red-handed while allegedly accepting Rs.5 lakh as part payment of the demanded bribe on July 15 in Noida.

Searches at his residence and office premises in Bengaluru,Noida and Jabalpur led to the seizure of around Rs.75 lakh in cash,Foreign currency worth approximately Rs.4 lakh, 697 grams of gold jewellery and coins valued at around Rs.86 lakh,and property documents related to a residential flat.The CBI said the investigation is ongoing.
