A 56-year-old autorickshaw driver died after a compound wall of the Vijaynagar Club collapsed on him during heavy rain in Bengaluru on Thursday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Shiva (56).
Senior officer told reporters that the incident occurred between 6.30 pm and 7.45 pm when Shiva had parked his autorickshaw outside the club compound wall.
Due to continuous heavy rainfall in the area,the nearly 15-foot-high wall suddenly gave way and collapsed on him,trapping him under the debris.
Passersby and local residents immediately rushed to the spot and alerted police officials.
Shiva was rescued from beneath the rubble and shifted to Victoria Hospital for treatment.However,doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police officials visited the spot and inspected the damaged structure.
Police said a case would be registered based on a complaint from the victim’s family members. Further investigation is underway to determine whether negligence or poor maintenance of the compound wall led to the collapse said a senior officer.
