Five persons were killed on the spot after the tyre of a moving car burst and the vehicle rammed into a parked lorry near Srinivasa Dhaba close to Tumkurlahalli Bridge in Molakalmuru taluk of Chitradurga district late Thursday night.
The deceased have been identified as Raghu(40), Rudresh (36),Pramod (35),Somashekar (35) and Mallikarjun.
Senior officer told reporters that Pramod,a two-time councillor elected from the JD(S) in Challakere City Municipal Council,along with Raghavendra,joint secretary of the photographers’ association,and their friends had gone to Molakalmuru to attend a Bakrid feast at a friend’s house.
After dinner,the group was returning to Challakere around 9 pm in a Tata Indigo car when one of the tyres reportedly burst near Tumkurlahalli Bridge.
The driver lost control of the vehicle,which crashed into a lorry parked by the roadside in front of Srinivasa Dhaba.
Due to the impact of the collision,all five occupants of the car died on the spot.
Molakalmuru Police Station personnel rushed to the scene.PSI Mahesh Lakshana Hosapete visited the accident site and conducted an inspection.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
