Former Ranji cricketer dies of suspected cardiac arrest during KSCA league match in Bengaluru

A 36-year-old cricketer allegedly died of a suspected cardiac arrest while participating in the KSCA Nassur Memorial Shield one-day league tournament in Bengaluru on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Akshay S L,a native of Shivamogga and an experienced cricketer who had earlier played in Ranji-level tournaments.

According to preliminary information,the match was being held at the SLS Ground when Akshay,who had completed four overs of bowling,reportedly complained of uneasiness and walked out of the field.

Moments later,while drinking water near the sidelines,he suddenly collapsed.

Fellow players and officials immediately rushed to his aid and shifted him to a nearby hospital.However,he is said to have died on the way to the hospital.

Police said the body has been kept at East Point Hospital in Avalahalli for postmortem examination. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of death.

It is with profound grief and deep sorrow that the President and the Managing Committee of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) mourn the untimely demise of former Karnataka cricketer,S.L. Akshay.

Akshay represented Karnataka with distinction at the first-class level and,even beyond his playing career, continued to serve the game with unwavering passion and dedication.

As a junior-level coach,he played a pivotal role in nurturing and mentoring young cricketers,leaving an enduring impact on the development of cricketing talent in the State.

His commitment to the sport,gentle nature,and selfless contribution towards shaping the next generation of cricketers earned him immense respect and admiration across the cricketing fraternity.

Karnataka cricket has lost not only a former player and coach,but also a deeply valued member of its family.

In this moment of immense sadness,we extend our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to his bereaved family,friends,teammates,students, and all those whose lives he touched through his guidance and affection.
