In a significant breakthrough in cases related to theft of passenger belongings (TOPB),the Railway Protection Force(RPF),in close coordination with the Government Railway Police(GRP),successfully apprehended four offenders involved in multiple theft cases and recovered stolen property worth approximately Rs.2,05,423/-.
The accused were identified and traced through sustained surveillance,meticulous analysis of CCTV footage from railway stations and surrounding areas, along with credible intelligence developed through informants.
On 07.05.2026 at about 16:30 hrs,while conducting routine patrolling duty at Platform No.1 of Banaswadi Railway Station,the movement of four youths repeatedly boarding and de-boarding the Salem Passenger Train appeared suspicious.
Acting promptly,a joint team of RPF Divisional Special Team/Bengaluru apprehended all four suspects for enquiry.
During interrogation and subsequent verification with CCTV footage,the accused confessed to their involvement in theft cases registered under GRP/Baiyappanahalli pertaining to theft of passenger belongings.
The following stolen properties were recovered from their possession:
02 Laptops,02 Mobile Phones and 01 Backpack bag containing laptop charger and bike key.The total value of the recovered property is approximately ₹2,05,423/-.
The successful detection of these cases highlights the alertness,professionalism and coordinated efforts of RPF and GRP in safeguarding railway passengers and their belongings.
RPF remains committed round-the-clock towards ensuring passenger safety, security and prevention of crime across railway premises.Further investigation into the matter is in progress.
