The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has joined the investigation into the recovery of suspected explosive materials along the route scheduled for Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Bengaluru.
The incident was reported within the limits of Kaggalipura Police Station,where security personnel conducting routine route sanitisation allegedly discovered a suspicious plastic cover containing explosive substances near the Kanakapura Road stretch leading to the Art of Living Ashram.
According to the complaint filed by police constable Jagadish Doddamani of Kodihalli Police Station,the suspicious material was noticed during bandobast duty ahead of the Prime Minister’s programme at the Art of Living campus.
The complainant stated that he had reported for duty on May 9,2026,and continued security deployment through the night.
On the morning of May 10 at around 7:00 am,he resumed duty in Sector-1A near a mud road adjacent to the forest area close to Kanakapura Road.
While conducting routine checks of suspicious persons, vehicles,and objects at around 9:45 am,he allegedly noticed a suspicious ziplock plastic cover lying in a vacant area approximately 20 feet away from the roadside near the forest compound.
Upon closer inspection,officials reportedly found a khaki-coloured cardboard box wrapped with tape inside the plastic cover.
The box allegedly contained around six stick-like objects resembling gelatin sticks,along with wires,matchsticks, empty containers,and tape materials.
The constable immediately alerted senior officers, following which DSP Om Prakash and other officials arrived at the spot and inspected the suspicious object.
Subsequently, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and explosive disposal experts were informed.
A team led by RSI Mohammed Aris reportedly reached the location at around 10:15 am and conducted an inspection until approximately 10:50 am.
During the preliminary examination,officials suspected the presence of explosive substances inside the package.Bomb disposal personnel later carried out further checks and secured the area.
A case has been registered at Kaggalipura Police Station under the Explosive Substances Act,and further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile,officials from the NIA visited the spot and collected preliminary information from Bengaluru South district police officers.
Investigators are examining whether the explosive materials were intentionally placed to target the Prime Minister’s convoy route or whether there was a larger conspiracy behind the incident.
Apart from the NIA,teams from the National Security Guard (NSG),Research and Analysis Wing (RAW),Central intelligence agencies,and the state intelligence department have also inspected the location.
Senior officials,including officers from the state internal security and intelligence wing, are reviewing possible security lapses and analysing CCTV footage and local intelligence inputs.
The incident has triggered heightened security measures across the area,with police tightening surveillance along key routes connected to the Prime Minister’s visit.
Authorities are yet to officially confirm the exact nature, origin,and intended use of the explosive materials recovered from the spot.
