A 45-year-old woman allegedly killed her minor daughter before ended life at their residence in Immadihalli in Whitefield on Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as Suvarna (45) and her daughter Tarunya (13).

Suvarna is suspected to have smothered the girl to death and later hanged herself from a ceiling fan inside a room of their house.

Senior officer told reporters that Suvarna’s husband, Chandrashekar, a computer operator at a private hospital, had left for work on Tuesday morning.

When repeated phone calls to his wife went unanswered, he alerted his brother Vinod Kumar and asked him to check on the family.

Upon reaching the house, Vinod found the room locked from inside.Growing suspicious,he forced the door open, only to discover the bodies.

Police and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) rushed to the spot after receiving information around 11 am.Tarunya’s body was found on a bed, while Suvarna was found hanging. No death note was recovered from the scene.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Suvarna may have been suffering from depression, reportedly due to financial stress and concerns about the family’s future.

Police suspect that she took the extreme step after killing her daughter, though the exact motive is yet to be confirmed.

The bodies have been shifted to Vydehi Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Two cases have been registered at the Whitefield police station—an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) and a murder case—based on complaints filed by Chandrashekar and Suvarna’s brother, Manjunath, who has also expressed suspicion and sought a detailed investigation.

Police said further probe is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and circumstances leading to the deaths.
