Sujit Bose launches Bidhannagar campaign with TMC wall art in Kalindi, targets Centre over SIR

Kolkata — West Bengal Fire & Emergency Services Minister Sujit Bose on Sunday evening launched his campaign for the Bidhannagar assembly constituency with a symbolic wall painting of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party symbol at Kalindi, drawing an estimated crowd of more than 1,000 local residents.

Speaking from a makeshift stage near the freshly painted wall, Bose said the event marked the start of door-to-door outreach across the constituency. He listed development works undertaken in the area under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee — including upgrades to civic amenities, drainage and street lighting, and support for local fire services — and ran through a roster of state government schemes such as Lakshmir Bhandar, Swasthya Sathi, Kanyashree and Duare Sarkar outreach camps, claiming they had directly benefited thousands of families in Bidhannagar.

Turning to national politics, Bose alleged that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls had caused around 200 deaths in Bengal, a figure he linked to hardship and disruption during the exercise. He further accused the central government of using investigative agencies to target opposition leaders and parties, saying such tactics would not deter the TMC’s campaign.

Local councillor Suchayita Das, along with several block- and ward-level TMC functionaries, was present on the dais. Party workers said the wall-painting drive would continue across neighbourhoods in Kalindi and adjoining wards in the coming days as part of the constituency-wide campaign rollout.
