Senior citizen charred to death in House Fire in Kengeri

An 80-year-old man was charred to death after a fire broke out at his residence in Kengeri during the early hours of Thursday.

The Kengeri Police Station has registered a case of Unnatural Death Report under Section 194(3)(iv) of the BNSS and initiated an investigation.

The deceased has been identified as Mailarappa (80),a resident of House No.70 near Thimmarayappa Circle in Mylasandra, Kengeri.

The incident is reported to have occurred between 2:00 am and 2:30 am, while the matter was reported to police at around 5:00 am.

According to the complaint lodged by Ramya (32), daughter of the deceased,Mailarappa was living alone in a house adjacent to her residence.

She stated that her father had been suffering from gangrene in his left leg,which had been amputated, leaving him immobile.

She had been taking care of his daily needs,including food and medication.

On the night of February 18 at around 11:00 pm,Ramya visited her grandfather to serve dinner.At that time,he reportedly complained of loose motion and asked for medication.

She procured and gave him the tablets.Her brother Kumar alias Ramakrishna was also present at the house then.

At around 2:20 am on February 19,a relative, Bhagyamma,alerted the family that Mailarappa’s house had caught fire. Ramya,her family members and neighbours rushed to the spot and managed to douse the flames.

After removing portions of the roof sheets,her husband entered the house and found Mailarappa lying inside, charred to death.

Police have shifted the body for postmortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Investigation is being carried out by PSI Manjunath Daddimani.

Further inquiry is underway to determine the cause of the fire and whether any foul play was involved said a senior officer.
