In a major security breach attempt, two individuals tried to travel to the United Kingdom using a single passport and visa, leading to the arrest of a Sri Lankan national at Bengaluru International Airport.
The arrested accused has been identified as Kandya Rajagopal,a Sri Lankan national. He was taken into custody by airport police after suspicious circumstances emerged during routine checks.
DCP Northeast,Mithun GK told reporters that Rajagopal was scheduled to travel to the UK last Sunday and was waiting for his flight near the passenger exchange area. He later claimed that his passport and visa had been lost.
However,during interrogation,police uncovered a well-planned conspiracy.
Investigations revealed that Rajagopal had already sent his friend to the UK using his original passport and visa. The friend had travelled earlier using the same documents.
We found that Rajagopal had called his friend to the airport in advance, handed over his original passport and visa, and facilitated his travel to the UK.
After that,Rajagopal allegedly staged a drama by claiming that his documents were lost and attempted to obtain duplicate documents by informing authorities.
The person who travelled using Rajagopal’s passport has been identified as Sharushan Kunasekaran.Airport police are currently collecting detailed information about him and investigating how he managed to bypass security using another person’s travel documents.
During further interrogation, several crucial details have come to light.Police suspect that the accused attempted this method to obtain refugee status in the UK.
A case has been registered at the BIAL Police Station, and a detailed investigation is currently underway.
