The Attibele police have registered a case of dowry death against a city based businessman for allegedly killing his wife by injecting mercury to his wife ten months ago following which she succumbed at Victoria hospital on Tuesday.
The Deceased identified as Vidya M,was married to Basavaraju M,five years ago and the couple had four year old son.Since the day of marriage Basavaraju was ill treated her,terming her as“mental“.
He would lock her at home and tell the neighbours that she is suffering from mental problems,Vidya in her video statement to the police,prior to her death .
The victim,said that on February 26,this year,Basavaraju injured her right leg while she was sleeping in the night time .
Due to unbearable pain she woke up in the next morning and managed to consult a doctor at a private hospital who after examination advise her for further tests which confirmed the presence of mercury in her body.
The doctor also did a biopsy and gave a report that she had mercury in her body and advised immediate treatment .
Even though she was under treatment the victim’s kidney was affected and she underwent dialysis in March this year .
After her condition worsened she was admitted to the Victoria hospital where the Attibele police based on the medico legal case registered a case of attempt to murder against Basavaraju and his father after recording the statement written and video from the victim,a day before she succumbed .
The police are now awaiting post-mortem report while registering a case of dowry death from attempt to murder against Basavaraju and his father Mariswamachar for further investigation.
