Conman posing as pilot from UK befriended woman and made away with Rs.15.6 lakhs

Luring with expensive gift conman posing as pilot from UK befriended a woman and made away with Rs.15.6 lakh .

The victim, Laxmi Shivasharan,29,working for a private firm and living in a paying guest accommodation in Maratahalli,came across the conman on social media .

The accused introduced himself as Daniel Williams claiming to be pilot in UK On July 7.

The duo exchanged numbers and chatted for few days before Daniel informed her that he is flying to Dubai and sending her a gift .

Laxmi even shared her postal address after Daniel asked her for couriering the gift. He confirmed booking the gift and shared her a link to track the parcel .

Next day Laxmi got a call from a woman identifying herself as Anitha,from Alpha excise courier service informing her that there is a parcel in her name informing that the parcel had money and asked her to pay Rs.4.8 lakh towards custom fee .

She also assured that the money will be refunded once the she would receive the parcel .

As per her advise Laxmi transferred a total of Rs. 12,15,000 and Rs.90,500 to two different bank accounts .

The next day Laxmi received another call and this time the caller claimed to be from Royal bank of Scotland, Delhi made her to transfer two more lakh towards transfer fee,delay fee and bank upgrade fee .

After receiving the money transferred through online both them went out of reach.

After futile attempts to reach to them,Laxmi realized that she had been cheated and approached the police on Tuesday .

This is the most common form of online fraud and people especially educated fall for the trap when they are lured with gifts and other allurements from the people they meet online,a senior police officer,said .
