A bike taxi ride turned tragic for a 26-year-old IT professional,who has been battling for his life after suffering severe head injuries in a hit-and-run accident on ITPL Main Road in Whitefield on the night of July 13.
According to the victim’s family,Amarthya Kumar sustained critical injuries after the bike taxi he was travelling on was allegedly hit by a speeding car at around 11:45 pm near Formula One Junction.
Kumar has remained in a coma for the past three weeks and is undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Amarthya had booked a bike taxi to travel from Seegehalli to Hoodi.The bike taxi,ridden by Prakash,was proceeding along ITPL Main Road when it was allegedly struck from behind by a speeding car.
The impact threw both the rider and the passenger onto the road.
While Prakash suffered minor injuries and was later discharged after treatment,Amarthya sustained a severe head injury and was rushed to Manipal Hospital with the help of bystanders.
The driver of the car allegedly fled the scene without stopping to assist the victims.
Expressing anguish over the incident,Amarthya’s sister alleged through a social media post that negligence on the part of both the car driver and the bike taxi captain contributed to the accident.
She has urged the bike taxi company to provide immediate medical and financial assistance to the family.
She also called for a detailed investigation into the incident,stating that the rider may not have possessed a valid driving licence.
The family’ has requested authorities to verify the rider’s credentials and take strict legal action against those found responsible.
These are allegations made by the family and have not been established in the police investigation.
Meanwhile,Whitefield Traffic Police have registered an FIR in connection with the incident and launched a search for the driver of the vehicle that allegedly caused the accident and fled the scene.The investigation is currently underway.
