The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday carried out extensive searches across Kerala,Tamilnadu and Karnataka in connection with a case involving the seizure of a huge quantity of illegally procured explosives in Kerala’s Malappuram district.
According to the agency, searches were conducted at 19 locations linked to the accused in the case,as well as at the premises of explosives dealers and manufacturers.
During the raids, investigators seized several digital devices, documents and other materials, including gelatin sticks.
The case pertains to the seizure of a lorry loaded with explosives that was found parked inside the premises of Farha Hollow Bricks Company on the Chemmad–Thalappara Road in Malappuram district.
Kerala Police had registered the case after recovering 89,600 gelatin sticks packed in 448 boxes and 10,500 non-electric detonators stored in 35 boxes.
The NIA,which took over the investigation in April 2026, stated that six accused persons have been arrested so far.
The agency said the investigation has revealed serious national security concerns due to the large quantity of explosives allegedly procured without valid authorisation.
Investigators believe the consignment was intended for illegal and unlawful activities.
The agency is now probing the supply chain involved in the alleged diversion and transportation of explosive materials and is examining their intended end use.
The NIA said further investigation is underway to identify all individuals and entities connected to the unlawful procurement and movement of the explosives.
