Doctor Brutally Assaulted at BRIMS Hospital in Bidar; Five Arrested,KARD Condemns Attack

A 28-year-old doctor was allegedly brutally assaulted by a mob of patient relatives inside the casualty ward of Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences late Thursday night, triggering outrage among the medical fraternity.

According to police,the incident occurred around 12:30 am on May 22 while Dr.Tukaram,an Orthopaedics postgraduate resident,was on duty attending to a patient identified as Vijayasingh,who had reportedly sustained injuries after falling from a motorcycle.

A group claiming to be the patient’s relatives allegedly barged into the casualty ward accusing the doctor of negligence and inadequate treatment.

The situation soon escalated,with the accused allegedly abusing the doctor,issuing death threats and obstructing emergency medical services.

In his complaint,the doctor stated that the mob grabbed him,pushed him to the ground and assaulted him with punches and kicks in what he described as an attempt to murder.Other hospital staff intervened and rescued him from the attackers.

The victim reportedly sustained serious injuries,including a maxillary fracture,and is currently undergoing treatment at a local medical facility.

Police have registered a case against seven accused — Aditya,Vinod, Govind,Anil,Mahadev,Balaji and Pawan — along with several unidentified persons.

Five individuals allegedly directly involved in the assault have so far been arrested,while further investigation is underway.

The Karnataka Association of Resident Doctors strongly condemned the attack and demanded stringent action against those responsible,stating that violence against healthcare workers inside hospitals is unacceptable and poses a serious threat to emergency medical services.
