Posing as telecom company customer care executives allegedly duped a 47-year-old private firm employee from HSR Layout of Rs.11.9 lakh under the pretext of activating an eSIM card.
According to police,the victim,Vijay Mittal,received a call on May 7 from mobile number 9547267586.
The caller allegedly introduced himself as a customer care executive of Airtel and convinced him to activate an eSIM service.
Investigators said the fraudster,through deceptive means, gained control of the complainant’s mobile number on another device, enabling unauthorized access to banking SMS alerts and OTPs linked to his account.
Using the intercepted OTPs, the accused allegedly transferred Rs.11,90,002 from the victim’s Axis Bank account ending with 9438 without authorization.
The victim filed a complaint on May 12 at the Southeast Division Cyber Crime Police Station.Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
