Tension gripped at Uttarahalli after a 22-year-old man allegedly attempted to take his own life,triggering panic in the area.
The youth,identified as Isman Gonda,a native of Goa, had reportedly climbed onto a roadside fence and repeatedly shouted,“I will die,”while alleging harassment by truck drivers.
His erratic behaviour drew a crowd and created a high-drama situation in the busy locality.
According to eyewitnesses,the situation could have turned tragic if not for the timely intervention of alert bystanders.
Citizens managed to calm him down,restrain him,and prevent any self-harm before handing him over to the police.
Police said Gonda had arrived in Bengaluru two days ago to stay at his brother’s house.
He was reportedly unemployed,under the influence of alcohol,and suffering from mental health issues at the time of the incident.
A police officer from Subramanyapura Police Station said the man’s family was traced and called to the station.After counselling,he was safely handed over to them.
The incident occurred close to the police station limits. Authorities are also verifying his claims regarding alleged harassment.
