The Parappana Agrahara Police have registered an FIR against an inmate accused of drug peddling after a video surfaced on social media showing him making a video call to his wife from inside the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.
The case was registered based on a complaint filed by the prison’s Superintendent-in-charge,Karna B.Kshatri.
The accused,identified as Akbar,has been booked under Section 323 (dishonest or fraudulent removal or concealment of property) of the IPC,along with provisions of the Karnataka Prisons Act.
According to the complaint,the incident took place between February 28 and April 29, 2026,in Tower 1, Barrack 07,Room No.02 of the central prison.
During this period,Akbar allegedly used a prohibited mobile phone to make video calls to a woman and recorded the visuals,which were later uploaded on Instagram (ID: mussu**).
Prison authorities stated that the use of mobile phones inside the prison premises is strictly prohibited and constitutes a violation of prison rules.
The video also reportedly shows portions of the prison premises, raising concerns over security lapses.
Akbar had earlier been arrested by the Parappana Agrahara Police in January this year in connection with MDMA peddling, along with two associates.He was recently released on bail on Wednesday.
Authorities suspect that the accused either procured the mobile phone illegally inside the prison or received assistance from others.
A detailed investigation is underway to identify those who facilitated the entry and use of the banned device.
The complaint,along with video evidence stored in a DVD,has been submitted to the police for further legal action. .
The Police have summoned the accused for questioning to ascertain how he sourced the mobile inside the prison and its working despite high end jammers are in place .
Eariler on Thursday,the prison officials during suprise inspections seized two more mobile phones with active SIM cards from the neigerian nationals who are lodged in the prison.
