Bengaluru Konnanakunte Police Inspector to face probe over sexual harassment allegation by former Rowdy sheeter Yashaswini.

City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh has ordered a preliminary inquiry against a police inspector following allegations of sexual harassment by a woman rowdy sheeter.

The complainant, identified as 47-year-old Yashaswini Gowda, approached the Commissioner’s office on Wednesday and submitted a petition seeking action against Papanna,a police inspector attached to Konanakunte police station.

According to officials, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP),Jayanagar subdivision, has been tasked with conducting the preliminary inquiry.

“Based on the petition,a preliminary inquiry has been ordered.Further action,if necessary, will be taken based on the report,he said.

In her complaint,Yashaswini alleged that the inspector subjected her to repeated harassment, including inappropriate messages and verbal advances.

She claimed that he used endearing terms and allegedly made sexually suggestive remarks, asking her to meet him in private.

She further stated that despite initially ignoring the behaviour, she later approached his senior officers, but no action was taken.

Audio clips and text messages, purportedly of conversations between the inspector and the complainant, have since surfaced on social media, adding to the controversy.

Police sources confirmed that Papanna had earlier faced a similar allegation during his tenure as an inspector in Basavanagudi, following which he faced action .

The development has caused embarrassment to the police department, coming close on the heels of another incident involving a Mudabidri police inspector, which is currently under a CID probe over alleged misconduct with women.

It may be recalled that Yashaswini Gowda was arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) in February under the Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act (KOCOCA) in connection with a kidnapping case.

Further action in the present case will depend on the findings of the ongoing preliminary inquiry.
