Swift Action by Bommanahalli Police Prevents Child Marriage

In a prompt and effective intervention,Bommanahalli police successfully prevented a child marriage from taking place at Kodichikkanahalli,Roopen Agrahara, within the limits of the Bommanahalli Police Station.

Senior officer said a vigilant member of the public noticed preparations for a child marriage and immediately alerted the emergency helpline‘Namma 112’.

The information was swiftly relayed to Hoysala-209 personnel.

Assistant Sub-Inspector,Suresh and Head Constable, Umesh Nagannavar,who were on patrol duty,reached the spot within 10 minutes and halted the ceremony.

Upon verification,the police found that the girl involved was 17 years old,while the boy was 18 years old.

The police counseled the parents and family members, explaining the legal provisions and consequences under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.Following the intervention and counseling,the marriage was called off, thereby preventing a violation of the law.

The incident underscores the alertness,coordination, and proactive response of the Bengaluru City Police under the Safe City initiative,reaffirming their commitment to safeguarding the rights of minors and ensuring strict enforcement of child protection laws.
