A 29-year-old man,the son of a retired police officer,was brutally hacked to death by a group of youths he was acquainted with,allegedly over an old grudge,within the limits of Bandepalya police station on Monday night.
The deceased has been identified as Shabbir,a resident of Hosarod.
His father is a retired Assistant Sub-Inspector who served with the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP).
Senior officer told reporters that the incident occurred at around 11 pm on the Mangammanapalya main road.
Shabbir ran a junk shop near his residence and had gone to Victoria Hospital earlier in the night to visit a relative undergoing treatment.
While returning home with his friends in an autorickshaw,their vehicle was intercepted near a petrol bunk.
Investigators said eight to ten assailants,who arrived in autorickshaws and on motorcycles,blocked the victim’s auto and forcibly dragged Shabbir onto the road.
He was then assaulted with deadly weapons in full public view,sustaining grievous injuries.Shabbir succumbed to his injuries on the spot,following which the attackers fled.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the murder stemmed from old enmity.Shabbir and the accused were known to each other and had previously been involved in a quarrel over a trivial issue,which later escalated into a deep-seated grudge.
A murder case has been registered at Bandepalya police station,and multiple teams have been formed to trace the accused.Police are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify and apprehend the suspects.
