Passengers are being warned to remain cautious while travelling by train,as criminals are targeting unsuspecting travellers by befriending them and offering food or drinks laced with sedatives.
In a recent incident,a man identified as Krishna Kumar, a native of Bihar, was drugged and robbed while travelling by train.
Krishna Kumar was on his way to Danapur on January 2, when he became acquainted with two strangers during the journey.
The duo introduced themselves as fellow natives of Bihar and gradually gained his trust.
During a halt at a railway station, they got down and brought tea for him.Unaware of their intentions,Krishna Kumar consumed the tea, noticing that the two men were also drinking it.
However, the tea had been mixed with a sedative.Within a short time,Krishna Kumar lost consciousness.Taking advantage of the situation, the accused fled with his gold chain,Rs.4,000 in cash, and his bag.
Following a complaint, the Baiyappanahalli Railway Police registered a case and launched an investigation.
Subsequently, the police managed to arrest the accused while they were allegedly attempting a similar theft on another passenger.
The arrested accused have been identified as Safar and Sataram, both natives of Bihar. They are currently being interrogated at the Baiyappanahalli Railway Police Station.
Police have once again advised passengers not to accept food or beverages from strangers during train journeys and to remain vigilant at all times.
