Surprise inspection at Central Prison leads to seizure of five more mobile phones

As part of the “Prison Reforms Awareness Campaign” , a surprise inspection was conducted at the Central Prison on Saturday and seized five mobile phones and six sim cards .

The inspection was carried out between 12:20 pm and 4:20 pm,during which authorities recovered prohibited items from inside the prison premises.

The seized items include five mobile phones, six SIM cards,one charger cable and one earphone.

Following the seizure,a case has been registered against the people involved in smuggling the prohibited articles into the prison,those who assisted them,and the inmates who used the banned items.

The case has been booked under Section 42 of the Karnataka Prisons (Amendment) Act,2022,along with other relevant sections.

Prison officials said the crackdown on prison contraband has intensified since November last year.

A total of 24 FIRs have been registered so far, with authorities recovering 126 mobile phones and 98 SIM cards between November 26 and Saturday this year, highlighting the scale of illegal communication networks operating inside prison premises.
