In a significant administrative reshuffle and promotion, the Karnataka Government issued a notice on Wednesday formalizing the promotion of Alok Kumar (IPS:1994) to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP),effective retrospectively from September 12,2025.
This promotion is the culmination of a series of legal battles fought by Alok Kumar, who challenged the revival of a departmental inquiry that had previously impeded his ascension to the rank.
Alok Kumar, formerly the Additional Director General of Police,Training, has now been shifted to head the Prisons and Correctional Services,Bengaluru.
This shift also affects B.Dayananda (IPS:1994),the Additional Director General of Police,Prisons and Correctional Services.
Dayananda is transferred and posted as Additional Director General of Police,Training,Bengaluru.
His transfer follows a period where the government expressed dissatisfaction and called for reports regarding the continuing problems and security lapses at the prison under his watch.
