The High grounds police have arrested a 27-year-old man for selling pain killer tablets as Psychotropic Drugs for the students in reputed school and colleges in the central business district.
Based on a tip off,a team of police caught the accused Prem Vaishnav,native of Rajasthan and resident of Binny Mill area was caught red handed while selling pain killers (Tapentadol tablets)to his customers for a price ranging from ₹200 to ₹500 per tablet .
The police later searched his house to recover 6700 such tablets and booked him under NDPS act.
Senior officer said,Prem used to to sell paint and other accessories for living and used to peddle tablets for side business.
Probe revealed that he had sourced such a huge amount of tablets from neighbouring state through parcel service and sell them.
The drug is not sold over the counter but with a prescription,a senior officer said adding that the report in this regard has been submitted to the drug control department for further action.
There are more people involved in the racket and efforts are on to track them who are presently on the run.
