The Manchenahalli police on Monday arrested a 27-year-old autorickshaw driver who along with her female friend,murdered his former colleague to rob her gold valuables to repay the loan he had incurred .
Chikkaballapur,Superintendent of Police,Kushal Chouksey,said that the accused Rakesh,resident of Gauribidanur and his female friend Anjali,27,from Vibhutipura have been arrested,while two others , Naveen Kumar a cab driver and Niharika who are part of the crime are on the run.Efforts are on to track them down.
He further said that,the accused was earlier working for a catering company where he met the victim,Archana,27 from Srikantapuram,Hindupur,Sathya Sai District,A.P, who was working as “welcome girl”for the catering company .
The accused used to call her sister and they used to chat frequently even after Rakesh quit his job and become autorickshaw driver .
Probe revealed that Rakesh had incurred a huge loan and even pawned his bike and not paid EMI for the autorickshaw dor the past three months.
He called many for financial help including Archana. While chatting with her he saw the gold chain she was wearing and hit upon the idea.
He discussed the idea with Anjali seeking her help to kill Archana rob valuables to clear his dues.Archana agreed and roped in her friend’s Naveen and Niharika for the job .
As per the plan,they invited Archan for a trip on her birthday and strangled her to death, before removing the valuables and dumping the body Near Nyamagondlu Bridge,Manchenalli on August 17.
The Manchenahalli police recovered the decomposed body the next day and initiated investigation.
The police ascertained the identity of the body after contacting the neighbouring states and districts and came to know through call record details that Rakesh had contacted her.
Based on suspicion the police picked up Rakesh who by then had pawned the gold and cleared the loan.Based on his confession the police arrested Anjali for abe
tting to his crime.
