CCB raids data centre in Whitefield,seizes equipment worth Rs.10 lakh,arrests accused in illegal telephone exchange racket

An alert from mobile service provider,led the Central Crime Branch officials to bust another illegal international telephone exchange racket being operated from a Data centre in Whitefield .

Based on the complaint filed by the Department of Telecom and Vodafone,a team of officials led by Inspector,Umesh Kumar raided Iron Mountain data centre in whitefield and seized six SIM boxes,133 Sim cards,12 data storage servers,IPBX ((Internet Protocol Private Branch Exchange))and a network router and other equipment worth Rs.10 lakh.

The police have also arrested Tufail Ahmed,35,a BE graduate from Tamilnadu,operating the centre while his associate sitting in Dubai,overseeing the operations .

City police Commissioner,Seemant Kumar Singh,said that the accused used to convert the international calls to local calls and cheating the service providers and tele callers worth several crores .

The police during the probe found that the service is also being used by cyber crimes,which is now part of the probe .

The accused had rented out a space on rental basis to carry run the illegal exchange,without the notice of the company the data centre stores and managed servers of IT companies and banks .

The companies according to Mr.Singh should keep an eye on the activities of their tenants to ensure the operations are legal and secure .

This is the third case of illegal telephone exchange rackets operated from the city,in the last one month.

The CCB officials based on the confession of Tufail Ahmed gathered details of his associate in Dubai and efforts are on to secure him .

With this the CCB officials managed to disconnect at least three networks of illegal telephone exchange rackets and suspects that there are more and investigations are on to expose them.
