The Vyyalikaval police on Monday arrested a 45-year-old domestic help for assaulting a guest with a machete over a trivial row at the house on Sunday.
The accused Lalithamma,packed her bag soon after the attack and tried to escape,but in a swift action,the police tracked her down and arrested her at the bus stand before she boarded a bus to her native place .
According to the police Lalithamma was working in the house of a retired Nurse for the last 13 years and stayed in the same house .
The family used to have a frequent visitor identified as Sushmitha,21,who is working as staff nurse at a private hospital .
Probe revealed that Sushmita used to humiliate Lalithamma every time she would visit and even chided her during her visit on Saturday.
Unable to bear the embarrassment and humiliation, Lalithamma walked into Sushmitha’s room while she was sleeping at around 3 am and attacked her with machete and escaped .
The injured Sushmitha raised alarm prompting the family to rush to her help and shifted the unconscious Sushmitha to the hospital.
Taking advantage of the situation Lalithamma packed her bag and left the house citing some emergency to attend.
The police rushed to the hospital gathered details and arrested Lalithamma within hours of the incident.She has been booked under attempt to murder and probing further to ascertain the exact cause of the attack . Sushmitha is presently recovering in ICU.
