The Kora Police on Saturday registered a case of attempt to murder against a group of six transgenders for allegedly attempting to murder one of their community member for falling out from their group at Sorekunte gate in Bellavi village in Tumakuru district on Friday night.
The victim,Anushri,a transgender and sex worker,living with her daughter and returning home on Friday night , when the accused intercepted her in two autorickshaws and attacked her with blade and beer bottles .
Anushri managed to escape and took shelter in a mosque near-by.With the help of passers-by she managed to reach the hospital in an ambulance and admitted to district hospital .
Based on the Medico legal case,the police have registered a case against Anusha,the prime accused in the case and five others.
Anushri in the complaint alleged that the accused attacked her over a row over chit fund and gold issue.
However she said that the motive behind the attack is that she had came out of the Asha managed group,to join the other group.The group among the transgender community is called Gharana,run by a leader .
The group according to the complainant carry out illegal activities including petty crimes,prostitution and begging and even runs money lending business .
The members had to share the earning with the gang leader as protection money and bound by the rules of the gang.
Any violations of the rules are strictly dealt with in terms of severe punishment and torture,a city based NGO, helping Anushri, told reporters.
Such attacks on transgenders are on the rise due to inaction from the police fearing backlash.Even though the government has brought several measures to uplift the transgenders and to bring them to the mainstream, such measures are not reaching out the needy,the NGO added .
Unable to bear the torture Anushri had walked out of the group to join another group and even threatened the prime accused Asha that she will approach the police and expose her illegal activities .
Many transgenders condemning the attack gathered in front of the Kora Police station and staged a protest, demanding strict action against the accused .
