Conman posing as Software Engineer of reputed IT company dupes American Express Banking group & cheated bank worth Rs.25 Lakhs

The Whitefield Division cyber crime police are now on the lookout for a conman who posing as software engineer of a reputed IT company availed two credit cards from American Express banking corporation and cheated the bank worth Rs.25 lakh since the last six months.

The cheating came to light when the actual software engineer whose name and credentials had been misused,checked his PAN card to find that there are two credit cards availed in his name and raised a complaint with the bank.

Based on the complaint,filed by the security manager of the company, the police have registered a case against unknown person charging him under various sections of IT Act and also under cheating and impersonation sections of BNS.

According to the complaint,the conman,posing as Shaliendra Kumar Thakur,claiming to be working in the Wipro company applied for two credit cards.

He even submitted the required documents and the bank had verified the documents in the form of KYC and Video verifications before issuing the cards.

The police are verifying on the procedure of the bank verification to ascertain whether there are any lapses on their part.

After the duo verification,the bank delivered two credit cards to the postal address situated on Swamy Vivekananda Road in Halasuru on June last year .

The bank further verified that the accused had used both the cards Rs.12.6 lakh and Rs.11.2 lakh with a total amount of Rs.23,67,729 to cheat the bank and the genuine name holder .

The police have initiated investigations to track down the accused through the credit card transaction details and further investigation is on.
