Rome-based Catholic organization, the Global Catholic Council, has submitted a formal petition to the Honourable Chief Minister, urging disciplinary action against a police officer accused of brutally assaulting Christians—including women and children—in Mangaluru.
According to the Council, despite the severity of the allegations, the officer was protected by a political leader in Karnataka after the Congress government came to power, and was subsequently rewarded with prominent positions.
The Council expressed deep concern over the lack of accountability and has called on the government to ensure that no protection is given to corrupt or abusive officials.
It has also urged the Chief Minister to initiate appropriate disciplinary measures against the political leader allegedly shielding the officer involved.
