Bengaluru Prison Psychologist Caught for allegedly Smuggling Phone for Inmate

Alert security personnel at the central prison of Parappana Agarahara caught a 33-year-old psychiatric counsellor red handed trying to smuggle a mobile phone inside the prison meant to be handed over to Under trail prisoner on Friday.

The accused Navyashri KM,resident of KR Pete working on contract basis was caught by woman head constable Smitha while frisking her with hand held metal detector.

The devise started beeping for which she was subjected to physical frisking to recover a mobile phone concealed in a private part .

The accused was handed over to the commandant of Karnataka Industrial Security Force,who handed over the accused to the jurisdictional Parappana Agarahara police along with the seized mobile phone for further investigation.

Based on the complaint filed by Karna B Kshtri, Superintendent of Prison,the police have registered a case against Navya charging her under Karnataka prisons Act and also under section 323 ( dishonest or fraudulent removal or concealment of property) for further investigations.

Upon questioning Navya confessed to the crime and told the police that she is carrying the mobile to handed it over to an UTP on the request of her male colleague identified as Shrujan.

Further inquiry revealed that her male colleague had taken money from the UTP to get the phone inside the prison.Thinking that female staff going inside the prison are less likely to be frisked,he convinced Navya to take up the job.

The police are now trying to get the details of the UTP who assigned the job to him.The incident is one of the reason how mobile phones and other contrabands are smuggled inside the highly secured central prison hoodwinking the multi level checks,said a senior officer .
