A 48-year-old welder murdered his wife with a dumbbell before ending his life by hanging at his residence over a domestic row in Vijayapura in the outskirts of the city on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Basavachari and his wife,Suma,36,a homemaker.
The couple stayed in a house in Maruthi Nagar in Vijayapura Town with two minor children .
Senior officer told reporters that the couple’s 14-year-old son and his younger brother returned home from school and found them dead in separate rooms .
They raised alarm prompting the neighbors to rush to their help and alerted the police .
Probe revealed that Suma’s body was found inside the bedroom on the cot with injuries to her head.There were blood splatters on the bed sheet,floor and wall and a blood soaked dumbbell allegedly used to hit the woman was also found on the bed.
Basavachari’s body was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in the hall. Police suspect that when the children went to school at 9 am,the couple,who quarrelled frequently over domestic issues, fought again and in a fit of rage,Basavachari hit Suma with the dumbbell,and once he realised that she had died,he killed himself.
According to the police,the son claimed that the couple quarrelled over some issues related to a site. however police are investigating to ascertain the exact reason for the murder and suicide.Basavachari married Suma from Hassan 16 years ago.
