Dr.M.A.Saleem is new DG-IGP of Karnataka,bats for transparency,victim-centric approach

Dr.M.A.Saleem,a 1993-batch IPS officer,has been appointed as the New Director General & Inspector General of Police of Karnataka.He takes charge as the 43rd DG&IGP of the State.

In a notification,the Government of Karnataka stated that Mr.Saleem will replace Dr.Alok Mohan,a 1987-batch IPS officer—who retired from service on May 21—as the Head of the Police Force of Karnataka.

Mr.Saleem was serving as the Director General of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (Special Units & Economic Offences) in Bengaluru.

Dr. Saleem,who also held the post of Special Commissioner (Traffic), Bengaluru City, in 2022,is best known for his track record of innovative traffic management.
Dr.Saleem holds a PhD on ‘Traffic management in metropolitan cities:A framework to provide sustainable strategies to overcome traffic congestion and ensure greater safety on road’,from Bangalore University in 2010.

Speaking to the media soon after assuming charge,Mr. Saleem said that he will carry forward the work done by his predecessor focussing on the transparency in the department and victim centric approach .

The police officers tend to focus on crime and investigation in the process forget the victims of crime. There is a need for paradigm shift which needs to be focussed,he said.

Explaining a 12 point program,he said community participation in police department,maintaining law and order to ensure peace and harmony in the society, monitoring of social media to prevent mis information are among the areas of focus.

Prevention of Anti-National and Anti-Social activities and complete elimination of rowdies and adoption of latest technology to fight cyber crime and traffic problems towards management and decongest city to ensure safety on roads .

Prevention of social evils and protection of vulnerable sections of society including women and children and welfare of policemen to provide better working atmospehere for the police .

The cyber crime cases represent 12 per cent of the total crime reported .

There are some challenges compared to physical crimes which will be addressed with the adoption of latest technology.

Earlier Outgoing DG-IGP,Alok Mohan said that the state has the best force in the country and he is proud of leading the force .

The achievement of best police organization should goes to all the officers who are serving in the department and their families for supporting the cause .

The state police have achieved many mile stones.It has done a lot and lot more to be done,he added .

Additional Director General of Police, (administration ) Soumendu Mukharjee proposed vote of thanks.He is the third Muslim police officers who is heading the police force after AR Nizamuddin (1986) to A R Infant,(2012) .

He will continue to be the DGP of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Special Units and Economic Offences,Bengaluru until further orders .
