Remove Unauthorized OFC Cables: M.Maheshwar Rao

BBMP Chief Commissioner M.Maheshwar Rao has directed officials to remove unauthorized Optical Fiber Cables (OFC) installed in the East Zone.

During an inspection that began near the Guttahalli flyover in the East Zone,the Chief Commissioner observed OFC cables hanging loosely over pedestrian pathways and instructed immediate removal.

He stated that ducting systems have already been provided for laying cables underground in Tender sure and white-topped roads across the city.

Despite this,certain service providers have laid cables along roadsides, footpaths, electric poles,and even on trees, causing inconvenience to the public.

He emphasized that strict action should be taken against any unauthorized OFC cables laid where ducts are already available.

*Utilize Vacant Land for Public Use:

He noted that several BBMP-owned vacant plots remain unused and unhygienic.He instructed officials to identify such areas and make them available for public use.

He added that the BBMP is currently identifying designated zones for street vendors and directed that suitable BBMP-owned land be earmarked for this purpose.

*Maintain Cleanliness Around Transformers:

The commissioner expressed concern over the poor condition of spaces around roadside transformers.He directed that fencing be installed around such transformers and that BESCOM ensure these areas are regularly maintained and kept clean.

*Construct New Footpaths:

He observed the lack of pedestrian walkways along Palace Road,12th Main Road in Vasanthnagar,and near the Cantonment railway track.

He instructed a detailed review to identify locations requiring new footpaths or expansions and to undertake construction accordingly.

*Remove Unauthorized Wall Posters:

Referring to the defacing of public spaces with posters on walls and barricades—especially along Palace Road and other locations—Rao directed officials to identify and remove such posters.

He also instructed that unauthorized advertisement boards put up by private institutions and educational establishments be removed and penalties imposed on the violators.

*Inspection of Indira Canteen Meal Service:

The commissioner visited the Indira Canteen on Miller’s Road,where he sampled the breakfast to assess food quality.

He found the taste satisfactory and instructed the staff to maintain both food quality and hygiene standards.

*Desiliting of Storm Water Drains:

He observed silt accumulation in Storm Water Drains near the Cantonment railway track, which was obstructing water flow.He ordered immediate cleaning to ensure smooth drainage.

*2.5 km Road Inspection:

The inspection spanned 2.5 kilometers, starting from near the Guttahalli flyover and covering Palace Road,the area in front of Mount Carmel College,Cunningham Road, Miller’s Road,and up to the Cantonment railway track.

Special Commissioner (Projects),Avinash Menon, Rajendran,East Zonal Commissioner Snehal,Joint Commissioner Saroja,Chief Engineer Suguna,Executive Engineers,BESCOM officials,and other concerned officials were present on this occasion.
