Temple chariot tragedy: Bangalore Urban administration recommends disciplinary action against Hebbagodi police for negligence that led to chariot tragedy

Following the tragic incident of 100 feet high chariot belonging to Madduramma temple in Rayasandra crashed killing two people and injuring eight others,the district administration on Wednesday recommended the Superintendent of Police to take disciplinary action against the jurisdictional police for failing to do due diligence while providing security cover for the program.

In a detailed report after analysing the situation,the district administration said that the Madduramma temple annual chariot fair at Hoskur village comes under Muzrai department involving Taluk administration,police and temple committee as its members .

A meeting was been organized on February 24 by the members and the police had given the temple committee a list of guidelines to be followed strictly .

The guidelines including the height of the chariots should not be exceed 80 feet and it should pass all the fitness including the material for the construction to be used to pull the chariot.

The guidelines also recommended to use crane and nylon ropes to the support the cliff of the chariot.

The police also recommended to ensure the density of the road and make sure the electric wires and branches should not be hinderance .

Despite 10 point guidelines and prior meeting held on March 18 warning the members to adhere to the guidelines and strict action for any violations,all the chariots were construction with 110 to 120 height , violating all the guidelines given to them.

While Doddanagamangala village chariot crashed without any fatalities Rayasandra village chariot crashed killing two people including Lohith,24-year-old tech firm employee from Krishnagiri,TN and a Jyothi,16, a student from Kengeri .

The injured including Rakesh Reddy,19,autorickshaw driver,Kishore,19,autorickshaw driver,Manjunath,37, private firm employee,Rohith MG,35,businessman, Shilpa,34, daily wage labourer, Mahalakshmi, 32,home maker,Chaitalika,13, student and Kishan 17 were admitted to different hospital .

The district administration is trying to help the patients with poor financial background to get free treatment while suspending the Revenue Inspector and village administrator holding them responsible for the mishap .

The report also stated that the jurisdictional Hebbagodi police Inspector,Sub Inspector and the police personnel concerned who are responsible for ensuring security of the devotees are also equally responsible for the mishap and recommended disciplinary action against them.

The letter addressed to the Superintendent of Police also asked to submit the action take report to the office.
