Hours after issuing order entrusting CID to probe dereliction on part of the police personnel in Ranya Rao’s gold smuggling case, the state government withdraw it’s order on tuesday.

The decision of withdrawing the order came after senior officials clarified to the higher ups on how two inquires can be ordered on the same subject simultaneously.

Earlier the DPAR has issued order senior IAS officer Gaurav Gupta to probe the possible role of DGP Ramachandra Rao,who is the step father of prime accused Ranya Rao in the gold smuggling case.

Ranya Rao had misused the protocol of her step father to bypass security checks at the airport while smuggling gold bars concealed in her body.

The DRI officials verified her travel history and found that Ranya Rao had made several trip to Dubai and other countries and suspected that the trip could be part of smuggling racket.

While DRI and CBI pitched in to probe in detail, the government in a bid to do it’s due diligence ordered two probes on same case to investigate dereliction of police personnel involved and the role of Ramachandra Rao in this case.

The probe is to ascertain the nature of dereliction in terms of perceived or criminal and take cognizance based on the inquiry report.
