annada film actor Ranya Rao caught red handed for smuggling gold at Kempegowda international airport on Monday and remanded to judicial custody,was produced before the economic offence court and remanded to DRI custody for three days.
While Ranya Rao maintained that she was a mule and used to get payment for every trip she made to Dubai , the DRI who probed the case by analyzing call record details and her contact list suspect that she is part of international smuggling racket .
Her custody is to ascertain more clarity on with whom she was working and possible involvement of others in the racket.
Ranya had used her step father’s name to avail the protocol facility at the airport to hoodwink security checks .
However the DRI officials who studied her travel history kept a watch and zeroed in on her soon after she landed at KIAL from Dubai.
Citing highly confidential case involving National security concern the DRI officials informed the court that it could not publicly reveal certain “sensitive information” that would “jeopardise the probe” but would submit probe details and prime evidence in a sealed cover.
