It is known that Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy’s comments that the country’s youth should work 70 hours a week for India to catch up with developed countries have recently led to a big debate. Recently, L&T chairman SN Subrahmanyan’s comments have gone viral. He advised employees to work even on Sundays (90-hour workweek).
“How long can you keep looking at your wife like that? You have to work 90 hours a week. If necessary, you have to give up Sundays. You have to tell your wives that you will spend less time at home and more time in the office. I am sorry that I cannot work with you on Sundays. If I can work with you like that.. I will be happy. Speaking in a podcast earlier, Narayana Murthy said that productivity in India is low compared to other countries in the world. That is why he wants the country’s youth to work longer hours. He said that just as countries like Japan and Germany struggled after World War II, we should also work like that. He expressed the opinion that in order to compete with developed countries, the youth in India should work 70 hours a week. There were different reactions to this. While some raised the difficulties of working life, others welcomed Narayana Murthy’s opinion.
