he Girinagar police on Thursday arrested a 37-year-old delivery executive for damaging the Dr.Shivakumara Swami ji statue in Veerabhadranagar on November 30.
The accused identified as Sri Krishna,native of AP,has damaged the statue using a long stick at around 1.30 am and walked away.
Tension prevailed for sometime as people who noticed the status damaged protested demanding immediate action.
The Girinagar police swung into action and analysed over 100 CCTV footage before zeroing in on the accused.
A detailed questioning led Srikrishna to confess to the crime stating that he was motivated to commit the act in his dream and vandalized the statue while he was in the state of instability of mind.
The police have subjected the accused to medical examination and ascertain his mental condition while he was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody .
Bishop reaction:
Meanwhile reacting to the incident,Archbishop of Bangalore,Dr.Peter Machado said that it is deeply disturbing incident of the defacement and vandalization of the statue of Dr. Shivakumara Swamiji.
The act,which has rightfully outraged people across communities,has no place in our society.The Swamiji, revered as a symbol of peace,compassion,and secular values, has been an inspiration to countless individuals.
His legacy promotes harmony, and any act of disrespect toward him is a violation of the very principles he upheld.
The reported confession by the alleged culprit,claiming that he was motivated by a dream involving Lord Jesus, is both baseless and appalling.
Such statements seem to be an attempt to sow discord and create communal tension.On behalf of the Archdiocese of Bangalore and the Catholic community,I unequivocally condemn this reprehensible act.
We urge the police to conduct a comprehensive and impartial investigation,ensuring that the individual responsible is held accountable,irrespective of his background or affiliations.
With prayers for peace, I fervently appeal to the people to remain calm and uphold peace.Let us not allow such slanderous statements and provocative actions to disrupt the harmony of our society.
Let the law take its due course, and let us stand united in preserving the values of mutual respect and brotherhood.
