Each one of the victims of the flood has a different story.

Medicines and food are not available for those in the inner areas. There is no way to
clean the houses.

Eenadu, Eenadu Digital- Amaravati: Even though the state government is carrying out relief measures in the flood affected areas, the residents of the flooded areas are not facing the full extent of their hardships. As power supply has not been restored, some of the flooded areas are still in darkness. Cattle carcasses are also emerging in many places. Cars, two-wheelers and autos are not starting as they have been soaked in water for four days. But due to the fear of robbers, the victims refuse to go to safe places and stay there in fear. They go to distant places by water and stay there by bringing essentials. Although NDRF, STRF, police, revenue and government forces are fully engaged in relief efforts, the flood threat is still not being fully provided. The high level of flood water became a hindrance for the relief workers.

Tearful victims

‘Husband is not seen.. No food for three days.. No water to clean the mud in the house.. There is no medicine for elders in the house.’ They were moved to tears saying that they had seen hell in their homes for three or four days and no help was received even inside except for the roadside residences. Budameru is complaining that he has lost everything.

At Kandrika, a suburb of Vijayawada, the flood victims were being transported in tractors.

Houses are cleaned with flood water

The houses were covered with mud for three days due to the flood. The government brought 50 fire engines from different areas on Wednesday to clean the houses. Another 60 will arrive on Thursday morning. Meanwhile, in many areas, people are cleaning their houses with water standing on the road. Along with the mud, people are suffering from the smell coming from the carcasses of animals. Many things were washed away due to the rain water entering the houses and the existing ones were also damaged. Yochita, a housewife in Nandamuri Nagar, expressed her grief that she recently bought a big refrigerator for Rs.1.50 lakh and it was completely damaged due to the flood. ‘Four feet of water came into our house and all the stuff was damaged. My husband recently underwent heart surgery. At least we had trouble getting water to take medicines,’ said Nagadurgamma from Singhnagar, moved to tears.

Washed vehicles

Bikes are lying in heaps on every street. Autos and cars were also washed away. Some are missing. The existing vehicles were also damaged due to submergence. Motorists are worried about the cost of repairs as all the cars in the basements of apartments in and around Ajitsinghnagar are submerged in water. Auto has been in water for four days. The engine is damaged. Repairs will cost more than Rs.10 thousand. Not a day goes by without an auto skin. Venkataramana, an auto driver from Shantinagar, felt distressed.

My husband is missing
Nagamani, Railway Road, Singhnagar

We will be on the road next to the Singhnagar railway tracks. I, my husband Venkata Rao, two children left the house and boarded the boat. As there were more people in it.. my husband got down. No phone in hand. Switch off due to lack of electricity. There is no trace of him since Monday. We are all struggling.

We are left with constraints..
Pagadala Durga Rao, Singhnagar

I live by painting. I have two children. My house was completely filled with flood water. After locking the house, we all went into the nearest ward office and hid. Today, when the flood subsided, I went home and saw that all the children’s books, clothes and equipment were washed away. Finally we are left with commitments.

Mother has no medicine..
Sheikh Baji, Nandamuri Nagar, Suncity Colony

The flood came on Sunday morning. The house was knee-deep in water before it could be recovered. At that time, I, my wife, one and a half year old baby and mother were there. Both were sent to the first floor. We had trouble for three days without milk for our son to drink. Mom is out of medicine and can’t do anything. The fridge, washing machine and all the equipment in the house were damaged. We did not even receive food parcels.
