Dhaka: The caretaker government of Bangladesh has questioned whether India will hand over former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to their country or not. According to international media sources, Adviser on Foreign Affairs MD Tauhid Hussain told the media that the Yunus government will do whatever it takes to bring Hasina back to Bangladesh. He expressed his impatience that no matter how many times he asked India to hand her over to Bangladesh, there was no response. He commented that it is the responsibility of India to decide whether to extradite Hasina or not.
“We will try to bring her back in any way if our judicial system can handle it. We have various agreements and legal processes with India,” he said. When the media asked whether the interim government of Bangladesh knew where Hasina was hiding in India, they expressed their anger by saying, ‘Ask India about that’.
Hasina fled the country and sought refuge in India as students staged massive protests against the government’s reservations. But Bangladesh canceled the diplomatic passports of Hasina and her relatives.
The BNP ( Bangladesh Nationalist Party) has already decided that the issue of Hasina’s extradition will play a key role in Bangladesh’s bilateral relations with India . The general secretary of the party, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, disclosed this in an interview. He said that if she continues to seek asylum in India, relations between the two countries will be damaged in the future. He added that BNP wants strong ties with New Delhi.
During Hasina’s rule, hundreds of people lost their lives when student protests against reservations turned violent. Many filed complaints accusing Hasina of being responsible for the deaths of their family members. Due to this, cases are being registered against the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina. The police have registered 31 cases against her along with former ministers and followers. Hasina is currently facing 53 cases in total. Out of these, 44 cases of murder, seven cases related to genocide and a case of assault was registered against her in the clash that took place during the BNP party procession.
