n an effort to ensure road discipline among the road users in effective way and to minimise fatal accidents caused through rash and negligent driving,the state police decided to register FIRs against the drivers exceeding the 130kmph stipulation from Aug 1.
Violators are liable to be penalised with imprisonment up to six months,or fine Rs.1,000 or with both.
Alok Kumar,ADGP Training,Traffic,and Road Safety, told reporters that over Speed causes 90 per cent of fatal accidents.On an average around 50 vehicles recorded violating over 130 kms speed limit on Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway including few state transport buses which is matter of concern.
The district police have been instructed to check the speed of the vehicles and take strict action to ensure vehicles should maintain the permissible speed limit.
The traffic and road safety department with the help of district police and recently launched special drive against vehicles with LED headlights and driving on wrong ways and booked FIRs.
Registering FIR against speeding vehicles added to the list he added.
