Infant trafficking racket busted by Tumakuru police and arrested five member gang including three nurses involved in sale of new born babies to prospective clients

Investigating the theft of 11-month old baby boy, the Tumakuru police busted a infant trafficking racket and arrested a gang of five including three nurses involved in sale of new born babies to the prospective clients .

The accused on June 9,had sneaked into the house and stolen a 11-month-old Baby boy,Raki,while the family was asleep near Channabasaveshwara temple on June 9.

Taking a serious note on the child theft case, Superintendent of Police,KV Ashok,formed a special team which track down Ramakrishna and is associate Hanumanthraju,who were working as daily wage labourers with the help of technical details and CCTV footage found from in and around .

Based on their information,the police arrested Mubarak, a tamarind dealer from Belluru cross and rescued Raki.

Mubarak according to the police had three daughters and wanted a son and approached the accused through Mahesh,manager of a private hospital and offered Rs. 1.7 lakh.

Mahesh in turn engaged Ramakrishna and Hanumantharaju and gave them Rs.30,000 each after they handed over Raki to him.

The police team arrested Mahesh and two other staff nurses identified as Soumjanya and Poornima,who working as staff nurses at private hospital and part of the racket.

A Detailed questioning of the accused led them to confess that they are operational for the last two years and had sold as many as nine new born children to different couple.

Armed with the information,the police rescued five children including Raki who has been reunited with the parents.

The other four children have been handed over to adoption centre of Child Welfare committee for rehabilitation.

Inquiries revealed that the accused target unwed single mothers at the hospital who come for unwanted pregnancy termination.

The accused would lure them offer with money and sold to the couple who wanted children.

The police are also found that one among the nine children had died few months after pre matured delivery complications.

The police are now trying to track down the mothers of the four babies .
