Congress worker stages empty pot protests ahead of PM Modi’s Karnataka visit around 100 detained by police

he police on Saturday detained around 100 members of the congress party after they staged protest at various parts of the city with empty steel pots alleging injustices meted out to the state by the central government.

The police took the protestors,including AICC General Secretary,Randeep Singh Surjewala,Shivajinagar MLA, Rizwan Arshad and others near the Mekhri Circle in Bengaluru.

The central government has done great injustice to Karnataka.In return for the demands of the Karnataka government and people for drought relief the Centre had given ‘chombu’ (empty pot, which also stands for cheating in colloquial Kannada).”

Speaking to the media before he was taken into custody Mr.Surjewala,said that central government is indifferent to the state in terms of releasing its share of money for the development of the state especially when the state was reeeling under drought .

The people of the state had sought release of ₹6,000 crore for the Upper Bhadra Project which was declared in the budget He added that the central government promised funds and many others things but had given “chombu.”( empty pot) instead.

Hence it was decided to stage Chombu protest across the state to get the attention of the PM,he added .

Traffic snarls was reported in parts of the city including In Mekhri circle,Byatarayanapura,Gandhi Bhavan on race course road and other parts of the city for sometime .
