ED arrests West Bengal minister Jyotipriya Mallick in alleged ration distribution corruption case

ABHIJIT RAY, KOLKATA Former food minister and forest minister Jyotipriya Mallick was arrested by the ED in the wee hours of Friday after marathon questioning. The minister will be produced in court on Friday. Finally, The Enforcement Directorate on Oct 27 arrestedanother WB Minister of West Bengal Jyotripriya Mallik, in connection with an alleged case of corruption in public distribution system. The arrest came a day after the ED conducted searches at Mallick’s residence in Salt Lake, on the outskirts of Kolkata. Notably, the minister said he was the “victim of a grave conspiracy.”Jyotipriya Mallick after Partha Chatterjee. Forest minister’s luxury house found in Bolpur The name is Dotara. It is learnt that the minister had bought the house for Rs 1.5 crore.After the arrest of Jyotipray Mallick, his luxury house at Santiniketan in Bolpur has come under the spotlight. He had reportedly bought the house in 2017 for around Rs 1.5 crore. He then spent around Rs 85 lakh at home. At present, the estimated market value of this house is Rs 6 crore. After Partha Chatterjee’s ‘Opa’, Jyotipriya’s ‘Dotara’ has created a ruckus in Santiniketan.The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been probing the ration scam for quite some time now. Recently, the ED arrested a businessman named Bakibur Rahman. After questioning him, the ED raided Jyotipriya Mallick’s house on Thursday. The search lasted for 21 hours. The forest minister was arrested around 3.22 am. It will be produced in court today.
