Internet restored in Manipur after more than hundred days

Abhijit Ray:Manipur has been burning with caste riots for the past five months. Almost every day there are reports of clashes from the state. Blood is pouring out. This time during unrest, Chief Minister N Biren Singh ordered to activate the internet service after 100 days.In a press conference on Saturday, the Chief Minister of Manipur said, “All the people of Manipur are informed that the internet service was stopped to avoid any untoward incident in the state. Net service has been reactivated for all from today.” The Metei-Kuki ethnic conflict started in this northeastern state on May 3. Since then, the Internet has been closed to prevent the spread of fake news and incitement to violence.After this, on July 25, broadband services were introduced conditionally in some places like education and health. But the mobile net service was down till now. Common people had to face problems as the net was closed. Again and again, they requested the government to start the internet.It is to be noted that on May 3, the ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was started by the ‘All Tribal Students Union of Manipur’. The march was to demand that Meteids should not be given the title of Scheduled Tribe. It gradually turns violent. Violence spread throughout the state. Since then, over two hundred people have died there in the last five months. Many injured. The fire of violence is still burning in Manipur.
