Protesting against the illegal arrest and remand of TDP leader and former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, the bandh on Monday was successful across the state as per the party’s call.

Protesting against the illegal arrest and remand of TDP leader and former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, the bandh on Monday was successful across the state as per the party’s call. TDP activists and leaders have taken out dharnas and protest programs everywhere. Even though the police stopped them every step of the way, they protested without stopping. They raised slogans against the government and Chief Minister Jagan. They raised slogans saying that the time has come to end the Vaikapa regime, which is trying to strangle the opposition with illegal arrests. Opposition parties such as Janasena, CPI, MMRPS, Loksatta and others announced their support for the bandh. Janasena activists participated in the protest activities. In this order, the police arrested those who were agitating everywhere and took them to the stations. Arguments and fights took place between the police and TDP cadres in many areas. Lathi charge was done in many places. They brandished batons without even looking at the women. Those who were seen on the roads were taken into custody and taken to the stations.

Arrests of key leaders

Shops were opened nearby

People have supported the bandh in many places. Shops were voluntarily closed. Private schools have announced holidays in advance. In this background, the police, who advocated on behalf of the government, tried tirelessly to thwart the bandh. The RTC buses were stopped and driven close by. The leaders prevented them from coming to the bus stands. The activists were threatened with Section 144 and Police Act 30 with the intention of not completing the bandh. This created tension in many places. There was a scuffle between the police and the TDP workers. In some places the activists were seriously intimidated. It is a privilege to give warnings to shopkeepers. In many places, schools and shops were opened by the police. Pressure was put on the teachers to open government schools in Gannavaram. Traders did not open shops in Vijayawada city. Heavy deployment of police forced them to open. Otherwise, he warned that cases will be filed. Despite Act 30 and Section 144 in the city, Vaikapa leaders held massive demonstrations and inauguration ceremonies. As a thank you to CM Jagan for sending Chandrababu to jail, plexiglasses were set up in Jaggaiyapet to provoke TDP workers. It is noteworthy that the police did not stop them. Although there were not many passengers, the buses were forced to turn around.

  • The bandh was successful in Srikakulam district. The TDEPA ranks were arrested by the police and taken to the stations. Schools and colleges were closed voluntarily.
  • Constituency in-charge Kimidi Nagarjuna participated in the agitation along with the party ranks in Chipurupalli of Vizianagaram district. Constituency in-charge Babynayana protested in Bobbili Kota. The Vizianagaram district center was overwhelmed by the bandh.
  • In the joint East Godavari district, despite the police restrictions, TDP ranks came to the roads and started protesting. Shops, commercial and educational institutions were voluntarily closed. Traders of Rajamahendravaram thadithota and SVG market participated in the bandh. Vehicles stopped for three km on the Gopalapuram National Highway. Former Gopalapuram MLA Muppidi Venkateswara Rao was arrested by the police and taken to the station while peacefully protesting at Devarapalli main square. At Kakinada RTC bus stand, TDP ranks have taken up a mass protest.  
  • TDP cadres staged a protest at major intersections in the joint West Godavari district. Janasena and CPI supported.
  • The bandh was peaceful in the joint Krishna district. Jana Sena and CPI declared their support..Shops and private schools were closed.
  • Traders in Guntur city voluntarily shut down and observed bandh. Schools and colleges are not open. RTC buses are mostly confined to depots.
  • TDP ranks organized agitations at bus depots and main intersections in Sripottisriramulu Nellore district.
  • At Tiruchanur market yard, Chandragiri Constituency In-charge Pulivarthi Nani along with his wife Sudhareddy blocked the traffic by burning tires on the road.  
  • Bandh effect was seen in almost all parts of the joint Anantapur district.    
  • The TDP leaders and activists who came to the roads across the Kurnool district were stopped and taken to the police stations. Shops were forced to open. More than 300 workers were moved to the stations.
  • In CM Jagan’s own district YSR, private owners have announced holidays for schools. Traders supported the bandh by closing shops. Along with Pulivendu, the impact of bandh was seen in various mandals.

Today, Rajamahendravaram: “False cases have been registered against a person who has always worked for the development of the country and the state in his 40-year political career. At such a time, we bow our heads to the people of the state who stood by us and made the bandh a success,” TDP General Secretary Nara Lokesh said in a statement.
