A severe earthquake occurred in Morocco. Hundreds of people lost their lives in this disaster.

Rabat: The African country of Morocco (Morocco) was shaken by a natural disaster. Death toll due to Earthquake is increasing. The number of people who lost their lives in this disaster has reached 820. Another 672 people were injured, the Moroccan government said. Many of the injured are in serious condition and the officials are expecting the death toll to rise. A large number of buildings were also destroyed. Historical buildings were damaged.

The earthquake occurred on Friday night at a distance of 71 kilometers to the south-west of the tourist area of Marrakesh. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the magnitude of the earthquake was 6.8. Many areas including Al Hauz, Marrakesh, Kwarzazate and Azilal were shaken by this earthquake. As a result, many buildings were razed to the ground. ‘Suddenly the ground shook and the buildings shook. People ran out screaming. Just then the power went off. For ten minutes we remained in darkness. An eyewitness told the media that no network was working.

‘I was asleep when the earth was shaking. I felt like I was blown away. I immediately ran out of the house. It seemed as if the river had suddenly burst its banks. Our whole area is filled with cries and screams,’ said the locals of Marrakesh. All the people of the affected area stayed outdoors at night.

At present, relief efforts are ongoing. Nearby hospitals were overwhelmed with the injured. Media reports claimed that the country had never seen an earthquake of this magnitude before. The impact of these tremors was felt in neighboring Algeria. However, there was no loss of life or property. In 1980, a 7.3 magnitude earthquake occurred in Algeria. 2500 people died in that disaster and 3 lakh people became homeless. It is known that this year Turkey has been affected by nature’s fury. It caused thousands of deaths.
