Ex-CBI officer appointed as Chief Minister’s Security Advisor

Abhijit Ray, Kolkata:The former CBI officer is the security advisor to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This is considered very significant by political circles in view of the recent developments. The Karnataka Cabinet has approved the appointment of former Director General of Police and former Special Director of THE CBI Rupak Kumar Dutta as security advisor to the Chief Minister.Though he was appointed as the chief minister’s security advisor even before the panchayat polls, his appointment was approved at a meeting of the state cabinet on Monday, Nabanna sources said.In April, dutt’s name was proposed by the state and sent to the Raj Bhavan. In May, Governor CV Anand Bose had given his assent to the proposal. It was approved at a cabinet meeting on Monday. The IPS officer has served three terms as special director of the CBI. In 2017, he was one of the contenders for the post of CBI Director.Alok Verma was made director of the CBI instead. The IPS officer then returned to his parent cadre. In February 2017, he was appointed director general of Karnataka Police. Rupak will advise the Chief Minister’s Office on the security of the border areas of Bengal and law and order in the state.
